Chapter 32: Of the Lord’s Supper

All ignorant and ungodly Persons, as they are unfit to enjoy Communion with Christ, so are they unworthy of the Lord’s Table, and cannot, without great Sin against him, while they remain such, partake of these Holy Mysteriesa or be admitted thereunto: Yea, whosoever shall receive unworthily, are guilty of the Body and Blood of the Lord, eating and drinking Judgment to themselves.b

  1. a. 2 Corinthians 6:14–15

    2 Corinthians 6:14–15

6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership can righteousness have with wickedness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? 6:15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?

  2. b. 1 Corinthians 11:29; Matthew 7:6

    1 Corinthians 11:29

11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

11:29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

    Matthew 7:6

7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

7:6 Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.
