Paragraph 1.1
Chapter 1: Of the Holy Scriptures
The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible Rule of all Saving Knowledge, Faith, and Obedience; altho thea light of Nature, and the works of Creation and Providence do so far manifest the Goodness, Wisdom and Power of God, as to leave Men unexcusable; yet are they not sufficient to give that Knowledge of God and his Will, which is necessary unto Salvation.b Therefore it pleased the Lord at sundry times, and in divers manners, to reveal himself, and to declare That his Will unto his Church; and afterward for the better preserving, and propagating of the Truth, and for the more sure Establishment, and Comfort of the Church against the corruption of the Flesh, and the malice of Satan, and of the World, to commit the same wholly untoc Writing; which maketh the Holy Scriptures to be most necessary, those former ways of God’s revealing his Will unto his People being now ceased.d
a. 2 Timothy 3:15–17; Isaiah 8:20; Luke 16:29, 31; Ephesians 2:20
2 Timothy 3:15–17
3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
3:15 From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 3:17 so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
Isaiah 8:20
8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
8:20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.
Luke 16:29; Luke 16:31
16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
16:29 But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.' 16:31 Then Abraham said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'"
Ephesians 2:20
2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
2:20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone.

b. Romans 1:19–21; 2:14–15; Psalm 19:1–3
Romans 1:19–21
1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
1:19 For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 1:20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse. 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts.
Romans 2:14–15
2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
2:14 Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 2:15 So they show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them
Psalm 19:1–3
19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 19:2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 19:3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
19:1 For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. 19:2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 19:3 Without speech or language, without a sound to be heard,

d. Proverbs 22:19–21; Romans 15:4; 2 Peter 1:19–20
Proverbs 22:19–21
22:19 That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. 22:20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, 22:21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22:19 So that your trust may be in the LORD, I instruct you today-yes, you. 22:20 Have I not written for you thirty sayings about counsel and knowledge, 22:21 to show you true and reliable words, that you may soundly answer those who sent you?
Romans 15:4
15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.
2 Peter 1:19–20
1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
1:19 We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 1:20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own interpretation.
