g. Exodus 15:1–19; Psalm 107
Exodus 15:1–19
15:1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. 15:2 The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. 15:3 The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name. 15:4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. 15:5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. 15:6 Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy. 15:7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble. 15:8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. 15:9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. 15:10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. 15:11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? 15:12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. 15:13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. 15:14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. 15:15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. 15:16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O Lord, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. 15:17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O Lord, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established. 15:18 The Lord shall reign for ever and ever. 15:19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
15:1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: "I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted. The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea. 15:2 The LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father's God, and I will exalt Him. 15:3 The LORD is a warrior, the LORD is His name. 15:4 Pharaoh's chariots and army He has cast into the sea; the finest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea. 15:5 The depths have covered them; they sank there like a stone. 15:6 Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power; Your right hand, O LORD, has shattered the enemy. 15:7 You overthrew Your adversaries by Your great majesty. You unleashed Your burning wrath; it consumed them like stubble. 15:8 At the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up; like a wall the currents stood firm; the depths congealed in the heart of the sea. 15:9 The enemy declared, 'I will pursue, I will overtake. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.' 15:10 But You blew with Your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. 15:11 Who among the gods is like You, O LORD? Who is like You-majestic in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders? 15:12 You stretched out Your right hand, and the earth swallowed them up. 15:13 With loving devotion You will lead the people You have redeemed; with Your strength You will guide them to Your holy dwelling. 15:14 The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the dwellers of Philistia. 15:15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; trembling will seize the leaders of Moab; those who dwell in Canaan will melt away, 15:16 and terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of Your arm they will be as still as a stone until Your people pass by, O LORD, until the people You have bought pass by. 15:17 You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of Your inheritance-the place, O LORD, You have prepared for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, Your hands have established. 15:18 The LORD will reign forever and ever!" 15:19 For when Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
Psalm 107
107:1 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 107:2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 107:3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 107:4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 107:5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 107:6 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. 107:7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 107:8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 107:9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. 107:10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron; 107:11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: 107:12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help. 107:13 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses. 107:14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder. 107:15 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 107:16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder. 107:17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. 107:18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. 107:19 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. 107:21 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 107:22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. 107:23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; 107:24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. 107:25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. 107:26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 107:27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. 107:28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. 107:29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. 107:30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 107:31 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 107:32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. 107:33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground; 107:34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. 107:35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. 107:36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation; 107:37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase. 107:38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease. 107:39 Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow. 107:40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way. 107:41 Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock. 107:42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. 107:43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
107:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His loving devotion endures forever. 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy 107:3 and gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. 107:4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no path to a city in which to dwell. 107:5 They were hungry and thirsty; their soul fainted within them. 107:6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. 107:7 He led them on a straight path to reach a city where they could live. 107:8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men. 107:9 For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. 107:10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and chains, 107:11 because they rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. 107:12 He humbled their hearts with hard labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. 107:13 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. 107:14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke away their chains. 107:15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men. 107:16 For He has broken down the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron. 107:17 Fools, in their rebellious ways, and through their iniquities, suffered affliction. 107:18 They loathed all food and drew near to the gates of death. 107:19 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. 107:20 He sent forth His word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit. 107:21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men. 107:22 Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and declare His works with rejoicing. 107:23 Others went out to sea in ships, conducting trade on the mighty waters. 107:24 They saw the works of the LORD, and His wonders in the deep. 107:25 For He spoke and raised a tempest that lifted the waves of the sea. 107:26 They mounted up to the heavens, then sunk to the depths; their courage melted in their anguish. 107:27 They reeled and staggered like drunkards, and all their skill was useless. 107:28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. 107:29 He calmed the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 107:30 They rejoiced in the silence, and He guided them to the harbor they desired. 107:31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men. 107:32 Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people and praise Him in the council of the elders. 107:33 He turns rivers into deserts, springs of water into thirsty ground, 107:34 and fruitful land into fields of salt, because of the wickedness of its dwellers. 107:35 He turns a desert into pools of water and a dry land into flowing springs. 107:36 He causes the hungry to settle there, that they may establish a city in which to dwell. 107:37 They sow fields and plant vineyards that yield a fruitful harvest. 107:38 He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their herds diminish. 107:39 When they are decreased and humbled by oppression, evil, and sorrow, 107:40 He pours out contempt on the nobles and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland. 107:41 But He lifts the needy from affliction and increases their families like flocks. 107:42 The upright see and rejoice, and all iniquity shuts its mouth. 107:43 Let him who is wise pay heed to these things and consider the loving devotion of the LORD.
