  1. a. Romans 7:18, 23; Ecclesiastes 7:20; 1 John 1:8

    Romans 7:18; Romans 7:23

7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

7:18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 7:23 But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me.

    Ecclesiastes 7:20

7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

7:20 Surely there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.

    1 John 1:8

1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  2. b. Romans 7:24–25; Galatians 5:17

    Romans 7:24–25

7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

7:24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 7:25 Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

    Galatians 5:17

5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

5:17 For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.
