Paragraph 32.3

Chapter 32: Of the Last Judgement

As Christ would have us to be certainly perswaded that there shall be a Day of judgement, both to deter all men from sin, and for the greatera consolation of the godly, in their adversity; so will he have that day unknown to Men, that they may shake off all carnal security, and be always watchful, because they know not at what hour, theb Lord will come; and may ever be prepared to say,c Come Lord Jesus, Come quickly, Amen.d

  1. a. 2 Corinthians 5:10–11

    2 Corinthians 5:10–11

5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad. 5:11 Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.

  2. b. 2 Thessalonians 1:5–7

    2 Thessalonians 1:5–7

1:5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 1:6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

1:5 All this is clear evidence of God's righteous judgment. And so you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 1:6 After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 1:7 and to grant relief to you who are oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels

  3. c. Mark 13:35–37; Luke 12:35–36

    Mark 13:35–37

13:35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 13:36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 13:37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

13:35 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the master of the house will return-whether in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or in the morning. 13:36 Otherwise, he may arrive without notice and find you sleeping. 13:37 And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Keep watch!"

    Luke 12:35–36

12:35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; 12:36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

12:35 Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning. 12:36 Then you will be like servants waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once.

  4. d. Revelation 22:20

    Revelation 22:20

22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

22:20 He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
