Of the Westminster Confession of Faith (1646)
The almighty power, unsearchable wisdom, and infinite goodness of God so far manifest themselves in his Providence, that it extends it self even to the first Fall, and all other sins of Angels and Men;1 and that not by a bare permission,2 but such as has joined with it a most wise and powerful bounding,3 and otherwise ordering, and governing of them, in a manifold dispensation, to his own holy ends:4 yet so, as the sinfulness thereof proceeds only from the creature, and not from God, who being most holy and righteous, neither is, nor can be the Author or Approver of sin.5

The Almighty Power, unsearchable Wisdom, and infinite Goodness of God, so far manifest themselves in his Providence, that his determinate Counsel extends itself even to the first Fall, and all other sinful Actions both of Angels and Men; (and that not by a bare permission) which also he most wisely and powerfully1 bounds, and otherwise orders, and governs, in a manifold dispensation to his most holy2 Ends: Yet so, as the sinfulness of their Acts proceeds only from the Creatures, and not from God; who being most holy and righteous, neither is nor can be, the Author or3 Approver of Sin.4
